JonDoesCoding Repository Standards

Use this repository to initialize a new codebase with Jonathan’s default coding, architecture, security, testing, verification, dependency, and change-safety standards.

Give this to Codex

Paste the repository URL and this instruction:

Read the README in https://github.com/jondoescoding/jondoescoding-coding-rules.
Initialize this repository with Jonathan's coding standards.
Inspect the existing repo first, preserve its conventions and dirty changes,
install the standards without overwriting conflicts, then adapt docs/index.md
with project-specific architecture, commands, integrations, and verification.
Keep AGENTS.md lean.

Initialize a repository

From the target repository:

npx jondoescoding-coding-rules init --dry-run
npx jondoescoding-coding-rules init

The dry run shows every path before writing. Normal initialization refuses to overwrite different existing files. Use --force only after reviewing those conflicts.

What gets installed

AGENTS.md
docs/
  index.md
  standards/
    architecture.md
    change-safety.md
    coding-practices.md
    dependencies.md
    security.md
    testing.md
    verification.md

AGENTS.md is intentionally short. It routes agents into a linked knowledge graph, meaning a set of small Markdown concepts connected with normal links.

Standards

  • Coding practices: minimize cognitive load and unnecessary abstraction.
  • Architecture: UI, hooks, domain modules, adapters, and provider boundaries.
  • Security: server-derived identity, authorization, validation, rate limits, secrets, and safe errors.
  • Testing: confidence over coverage and tests through stable interfaces.
  • Verification: targeted checks, authoritative checks, builds, and real browser proof.
  • Dependencies: reachable imports, official docs, and verified dead-code removal.
  • Change safety: preserve dirty work, scope git actions, and record durable knowledge.

These principles were extracted from the most mature conventions in Prompt Bank, then generalized so they do not assume its routes, vendors, database, or framework.

Existing Cursor and Claude templates

The older template library remains available:

npx jondoescoding-coding-rules legacy --type cursor
npx jondoescoding-coding-rules legacy --type cursor seo/seo-best-practices
npx jondoescoding-coding-rules legacy --type claude-code --all

Develop

npm test
npm pack --dry-run

Start at docs/index.md for this repository’s own knowledge graph.
